…for the Egyptians could not eat a meal together with the Hebrews, since this was an abomination for the Egyptians.

Let me ask you this –
before the Egyptians declared our presence
at their table an abomination
had they tried our kugel?

Egg noodles with cottage cheese
and sour cream, ideally some sugar
baked ’til just barely crispy on top
could bring any Pharaoh back to the yard.

Before the Egyptians pulled away
the extra chairs when they saw us coming
and set up a dining area in another room
did anyone tell them about latkes?

Potatoes fried with onions and flour so they
stick together in perfect bite-sized yumminess –
(Big ones okay too!) Served hot with your choice of
apple sauce and/or sour cream (I’m a both guy.)

Did they try that? I’m convinced if everyone
in the world simultaneously ate a latke
world peace would happen faster than
you could say pass the salt.

We would beat our swords into frying pans.
We’d ride-share camels with anyone.
We’d build a high-speed chariot thruway
between Cairo and Jerusalem.

We’d build pyramids for free!
Oh Egyptians, save us a seat at your table.
The small talk would be big.
Our bellies would be full.

And no one would ever believe
Benjamin was capable of
stealing anything.
