Now it came about when [Joseph’s] master heard his wife's report that she spoke to him, saying, "Your slave did such things to me," that his wrath burned.
Genesis 39:19
How much of what we think or do
is based on a narrow truth?
Even the phrase narrow truth is just
a way to turn the word lie into poetry.
The flat earth.
The faked moon landing.
The famous election which so many
believe was stolen.
The missile that hit the hospital
was fired by who, now?
The stolen land.
The apartheid state.
The events, exactly as they happened
as viewed from opposite sides –
The same, but somehow
terribly different.
If our truth, based on our sources
and our deep sensibility
has no room for what other eyes see
then we may never leave
the prison of the narrow place.
The Egypt of our ancestors
which despite archaeology’s best efforts
has yet to be written in stone.
