Today, strengthen us
or remind us how strong we are
when so many around us feel weak.

Today shine a light on our blessings
We have so much and complain anyway
when ten feet away there are those with nothing.

Today remind us we can fly
but don’t let us get too cocky about it.
Let our flying be the vehicle for others
to go where they need to go.

Today let us know we’re fine
or we’re going to be fine, or even if
we’re not fine, let us be fine with
whatever it is we are.

Today write our names in the permanent ledger.
Use a pen, please, and here’s a list of people
to add to the list who don’t know they
have the strength to ask.

Today we’re making the big ask.
We hope You’re listening. There’s so
much other noise to filter out.

Today may our ramblings make You smile.
Even just a little. Maybe throw us a Holy Bone.
Just knowing we’ll make it tomorrow
is all we need.

Today let us ride the wave of Your goodness.
Let it seep into us and trickle down
(if You’ll forgive the politics)
to anyone who needs it.

Today may You give us a pass on
all the crap we’ve done. Or at least let us off
with a warning. We know what we did.
We’re going to try so hard not
to do it again.

Today we acknowledge we’re going to fail
and we’re going to have to have this
conversation all over again.
