1) Trying Something New is Traditional
Think about it! Back at the beginning
of human history everything they did
had never been done before.
You think you’re being risky by
doing something new?
Think again! Back then,
all they ever did was things they
had never done before.
So go for it!
2) Don’t change the melodies.
The old melodies are the right melodies.
They’ve always been the right melodies
ever since they were written ten years ago.
The new melodies are wrong and will
always be wrong, unless you sing them
six months in a row, in which case they
will become the old melodies and
don’t you dare think of changing them.
3) The Old New and The New Holy
When I first heard the phrase
make the old new and the new holy
I misheard it as
Make the old nude and the nude holy
which at the time, made a lot of sense to me.
Actually, forget about number three.
let’s move on to number four.
4) Tradition is what you did yesterday
Which makes sense to me as I get nostalgic
about things which haven’t happened yet.
The first week of my senior year
in high school, I walked around like a widow
weeping that all of this ending. with
the entire year still to go. Tradition
is what you’re experiencing at this moment.
Every moment.
So take a breath…like you always have.
Like you always will. Every mammal is doing it.
It’s tradition.
5)
I don’t really have a number five.
That’s my tradition. Leave a little bit
undone.
